Chinese developer Yunchang Game is preparing for the Final Beta phase of Devil May Cry Mobile in China, which is set for 25 March 2021. Officially licensed from Capcom, the third playable character was announced recently, Vergil, after Dante and Lady. Vergil has a slightly different playstyle from Dante, and we will discuss more on that below based on the developer interview videos. For now, here is the official Vergil trailer!
Yunchang Game has prepared 4 developer interview videos for Vergil, which we have compiled into one as seen below. They talked about art, character design, references from past games, and many more. Read on below for some key points!
The upgraded graphics, such as environmental lightings and design of Vergil’s costumes, are elements which Yunchang Game and Capcom worth together closely to finalize.
It was touted that “unedited” Physical Based Rendering technology was used. Close attention was given to Vergil’s hair!
Dante received a number of negative design and graphical feedback in previous Closed Beta tests and he has been improved on. But he is not ready to be shown now, perhaps during the developer livestream on 23 March 2021.
Some of Vergil’s skills controls have been edited for this mobile version, since it is impossible to duplicate some combinations found on the control pad.
While seemingly an easy task, the team at Yunchang Game discovered that designing Vergil’s iconic weapon, Yamato, is actually much tougher. After confirming details with Capcom, the team used the example from Devil May Cry 4, where the blade is facing downwards when being held.
